Runaway Christian Convert Should Talk Religion With Her Parents
The teen who converted from Muslim to Christianity and made national headlines when she ran away to Flordia should talk about religion when they are reunited, according to a proposal filed in Ohio.
The proposal filed by a government case-worker in Franklin County Juvenile Court outlined a plan suggesting Rifqa Bary, 17, needs to listen to her parents’ explanation of their Islamic beliefs and in-turn her parents need to listen to her explanation of why she is a Christian.
The goal is for both sides to help understand why the teenager ran away to Florida over the summer and stayed with a Christian family she met online.
The plan leaves open the possibility that the girl may never return home.
Bary has said she feared her father would harm or kill her for converting from Islam because he is required by Islamic law to do so. Her father has denied the allegation.
