Anthony Hauser, the father of a 13-year-old boy with cancer who went on the run with his mother to avoid chemotherapy treatment, pleaded Thursday for the return of his son, asking his wife to “do what’s best for Danny.”

“If you’re out there, please bring Danny home so we can decide as a family what Danny’s treatment should be,” said in a statement to his wife, Colleen.

“I know you’re scared and I feel that you left out of fear, maybe without thinking it all the way through,” he continued. “Danny is my son and the rest of the family is worried sick about Danny, how he is and how he’s going to come out.”

“Please call me and let’s talk about how you can come back here and we can get this worked out, what’s best for Danny.”

In addition, a new arrest warrant was issued for Colleen.  Brown County sheriff’s office issued a felony arrest warrant Thursday for Colleen Hauser. The new warrant was for deprivation of parental rights.

Daniel Hauser has Hodgkins’ lymphoma that is highly curable when treated with chemotherapy and radiation. Daniel and his mother fled Monday, a day before a court hearing that could have resulted in a judge ordering chemotherapy.  The  Hauser’s prefer alternative and natural remedies as a result of personal religious convictions.

CNN reports the two were seen in Southern California Tuesday morning and authorities have suggested they may be in Mexico.

Brown County Attorney James Olson said the parental rights belong to Brown County family services, which was granted custody of Daniel so they can get him to a pediatric oncologist.

“If she comes back today or tomorrow, I would dismiss it,” Olson said of the charges. “The reason was not to punish her.”

Authorities said they didn’t know what can be done if the Hausers have reached Mexico.

Authorities said Anthony Hauser, was cooperating with investigators.

  1. This is a slippery slope. On one hand, I personally believe in medical treatment and that God has given mankind knowledge and wisdom in technologies to help us. Automobiles, computers, refrigerators, and medical devices and technology has been a blessing from God. But on the other hand, should the state or federal government require people of faith to go against their beliefs and be force to undergo “treatment” or take certain medications. If this was my kid, this is a no-brainer, I am using God’s gift in medical science. But again, for an example, if I didn’t believe my kid needed Ritalin (for ADHD), is this a slope in which a school teacher or school counselor suggests to the government that my child needs Ritalin, and therefore they my family and I are forced to give our child Ritalin.

I know at this moment, this is comparing apples and oranges. But again, I am nervous with the slippery slope this may cause.
