Appellate Court Sets Filing Deadline For Student Christian Group
A U.S. federal appeals court set set a July 28 deadline for a Christian law students’ group at the University of Montana to file briefs in its appeal of a federal court ruling.
U.S. District Judge Richard Cebull for the District of Montana ruled last month that the law school did not violate the rights of the Christian Legal Society when it refused to use the allocated Student Bar Association for funding for the campus chapter, according to the Associated Press.
Cebull claims that the CLS requirement that members declare their faith was at odds with the school’s policy which requires all student law organizations to be open to all members of the School of Law; and a nondiscrimination policy that says students have the right to be free from discrimination based on creed.
