Homeland Security Labels Pro-Life Supporters, Domestic Terrorists

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) recently published a report entitled:  ”Rightwing Extremism:  Current Economic and Political Climate Fueling Resurgence in Radicalization and Recruitment” .

The document has triggered a huge backlash among conservatives because it raised the idea  that disgruntled veterans returning from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan might “boost the capabilities of extremists . . . to carry out violence.”

The report warns in the first of a series of findings.”The economic downturn and the election of the first African American president present unique drivers for right-wing radicalization and recruitment.”

The report describes “right-wing extremism” as possibly including “groups and individuals that are dedicated to a single issue, such as opposition to abortion or immigration.”

Abortion opponents have jumped on that description. Jay Sekulow with the American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ) stated in an e-mail sent out to members, “is so troubling that at first, I actually didn’t believe that Homeland Security could issue such a document.”  Sekulow adds, “This characterization is not only offensive to millions of Americans who hold constitutionally-protected views opposing abortion - but also raises serious concerns about the political agenda of an agency with a mandate to protect America.”

It doesn’t stop there, people in all walks of life are sounding off on the issue, and not just on conservative web sites, “Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano is a disgrace to the country. How in the world can you describe her in any other way. She has signed off on a report that targets 1) Returning vets 2) People that oppose abortions and 3) People opposed to “immigration” as potential terrorists,” writes an individual who wrote a comment on the MSNBC.com site.

With all of the turmoil and concern with the economics, tax increases and labels from DHS, even Govoners are concerned.  Texas Gov. Rick Perry suggested that Texas could secede from the union. The stated AP: “Texans might at some point get so fed up they would want to secede from the union”.  He continues “Texas is a very unique place, and we’re a pretty independent lot to boot.’” Perry is he preparing himself for a GOP primary against Kay Bailey Hutchison.

The Thomas More Law Center, announced that it has “filed a Freedom of Information Act request with the Department of Homeland Security demanding to know the basis for their recent intelligence assessment targeting as ‘rightwing extremists’ those who oppose abortion, gun control, lax immigration laws, and a myriad of other policies supported by President Obama’s administration.”
